Candle Care

Follow our candle care guidelines to ensure you get the most out of your candles.

Soy Wax vs Paraffin Wax

Most candles sold in stores and online are made with paraffin wax. Paraffin is a by-product from the petroleum industry. When you burn one of these candles, you are essentially burning petrol or carbon! This can obviously be quite harmful to humans (and animals!) as these fumes can be toxic.

Soy wax candles are the best alternative if you want to enjoy candles without all the toxins. Soy wax provides a cleaner burn without carcinogens or pollutants which also won’t trigger allergies. They also burn up to 50% longer than paraffin wax candles. Whilst all flames will produce a certain amount of soot, soy wax scented candles burn noticeably cleaner than paraffin wax scented candles.

Soy wax comes from natural soya beans. Choosing a soy wax candle instead of paraffin wax helps to stimulate an environmentally friendly economy by utilising this natural, biodegradable and renewable resource.

We choose not to add any artificial colours to our candles and only use cotton wicks that are lead-free. We prefer to keep our candles as natural as possible.

The First Burn is the Most Important

When you light your candle for the first time, always allow the wax to burn so that it melts across the entire surface to the edges. will effectively assist in preventing tunnelling and help promote an even burn for the duration of the candle's life.

Keep your wick trimmed!

Ensure that your wick is always trimmed to 5mm long before lighting.

This helps to prevent the flame from getting too large and burning through the wax quickly. We recommend trimming the wick every 3 hours of burn time. Try not to burn your candle for more than four hours at a time. When trimming, always extinguish the flame, let the candle cool down to room temperature, remove any wick debris and trim the wick before relighting. If the candle is burning correctly, it should be constant (not flickering), teardrop shaped and upright. If the candle flame is large and flickering, this is due the wick being too long. To trim your wick, you can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers or scissors. If your candle glass starts to blacken with use, remember to keep the wick trimmed.

Putting out your candle

To extinguish the candle flame, use a lid, snuffer or you can carefully dip the wick into the melted wax and then straighten to prevent excess smoke coming from the wick. Try to avoid blowing candle flames out and do not extinguish with water as this can cause the jars to break.
